Engagement Dashboard Overview
The Engagement Dashboard gives trainers and administrators a real-time view of how students are interacting with their training. It surfaces enrolment activity, time-on-task, and content completion data at three levels: across your entire organisation, within individual classes, and for individual students, so you can quickly identify where engagement is strong and where students may need support.
What's Covered in This Article
This article explains the three tabs available in the Engagement Dashboard and what each one shows:
- Overview tab: Organisation-wide engagement metrics, trends, and class-level comparisons.
- Class Engagement tab: Engagement data for a specific class, including unit and content breakdowns.
- Student Engagement tab: Detailed engagement and content progress for an individual student.
Who can do this: Administrators with Engagement Metrics permission.
Navigating to the Dashboard
Navigate to Engagement in the left sidebar under Operation. This opens the organisation-wide Engagement Dashboard.
Overview Tab
The Overview tab is the default view when you open the Engagement Dashboard. It provides a snapshot of engagement activity across all classes within a selected time period.
A time period filter and a course filter are available in the top-right corner of the page. By default, the dashboard shows data for All courses over the Last 30 days.
Summary Metrics
Four summary cards appear at the top of the page:
| Metric | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Total Class | The total number of active classes in the selected period. |
| Total Enrolments | The total number of student enrolments, with a percentage change compared to the previous period. |
| Engaged Enrolments | The number of enrolments where students have been actively interacting with content. A View Details link is available. |
| Enrolments Not Engaged | The number of enrolments where students have not engaged within the selected period. A View Details link is available. |
Overall Engagement Chart
The Overall Engagement chart plots engagement activity over the selected time period, showing engagement by student on the vertical axis and date on the horizontal axis. Use this chart to identify trends, for example, a spike in activity around assessment due dates or a drop-off in the later weeks of a class.
Top Engagement Table
The Top Engagement panel on the right side of the page lists your highest-engagement classes, ranked by the number of engaged students. The table shows:
- Class: The name of the class.
- Trainers: The trainer(s) assigned to that class.
- Engaged Students: A progress bar and ratio (e.g. 3/4, 75%) showing how many enrolled students are engaged.

Class Engagement Section
Below the charts, a Class Engagement section lists all classes with a search field (Search by course or class name) to filter results.

Class Engagement Tab
Clicking the Class Engagement tab or clicking a specific class from the Overview to open the class-level engagement view. A breadcrumb at the top of the page shows the course code and class name.
The time period filter in the top-right applies to this view as well.
Class Summary Metrics
Four summary cards are shown for the selected class:
| Metric | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Total Enrolments | Total students enrolled in the class, with a percentage change vs. the previous period. |
| Engaged Enrolments | Students actively engaging with content. A View Details link is available. |
| Expired Enrolments | Students whose enrolment access has expired. |
| Enrolments Not Engaged | Students not interacting with content in the selected period. A View Details link is available. |
The class trainer(s) and class status (e.g. Active) are also displayed in this header area.
Engagement Progress Chart
The Engagement Progress chart shows engagement activity over time for this class, with engagement by student plotted against date. Use this to see when students in the class are most active.
Content Progress Panel
To the right of the chart, the Content Progress panel breaks down time spent within the class by content category, each with a sparkline trend graph and a comparison against the previous period:
- Learning Content: Time spent on learning resource materials (PDFs, videos, articles, etc.).
- Assessments: Time spent on assessment activities.
- Observations: Time spent on observation activities.

Unit Engagement Drill-Down
Below the class-level charts, a Unit Engagement section appears. This allows you to drill into a specific unit to see how students are spending their time on individual content items.
Selecting a unit from the list on the left reveals a content breakdown on the right, showing every content item within that unit. Each item displays:
- Content name and content type (e.g. Observation, Assessment).
- Total Spent Time: The total time all students in the class have spent on this content item.
- Time Per Student: The average time each student has spent on this item.
Each content row can be expanded using the chevron icon to see additional detail.

Student Engagement Tab
The Student Engagement tab provides engagement data for an individual student. Use the student selector at the top of the page to choose a student, and the Filter by class dropdown to narrow the view to a specific class or show data across All Classes.
The time period filter in the top-right applies to this view.
Student Summary Metrics
Four summary cards are shown for the selected student:
| Metric | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Total Time | Total time the student has spent engaging with content in the selected period. |
| Content Viewed | The number of content items the student has viewed. |
| Completed Content | The number of content items the student has completed. |
| Time Per Content | The average time spent per content item. |
Each metric also shows a percentage change compared to the previous period.
Engagement Progress Chart
The Engagement Progress chart plots this student's engagement activity over the selected time period, with engagement by student on the vertical axis and date on the horizontal axis.
Content Progress Panel
The Content Progress panel on the right breaks down the student's time by content category, with trend graphs and comparisons to the previous period:
- Learning Content: Time spent on learning resource materials.
- Assessments: Time spent on assessment activities.
- Observations: Time spent on observation activities.

Student Engagement Table
Below the charts, the Student Engagement table lists every content item the student has interacted with. You can filter the list by content type using the All Content dropdown and search by content name.
| Column | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Content Name | The name of the content item, displayed as a clickable link. |
| Unit Name | The unit the content belongs to, with a course icon. |
| Type | The content type (e.g. PDF, Assessment, Observation). |

| Completed | Displays a tick with the result status — (S) for Satisfactory or (C) for Completed — when the item has been finished. |
| Last Viewed | The date and time the student last accessed this item. |
The table is paginated and displays the total number of content items at the bottom left.
