Accessing Learning Resources
Learning resources are the instructional materials your RTO has prepared to guide you through each unit. They include a wide range of formats, from PDFs and videos to interactive SCORM packages and audio podcasts; each designed to support your understanding before you complete formal assessments. This article explains how to find, open, and complete learning resources throughout your course.
What's Covered in This Article
This article walks you through how to access and interact with learning resources in Nimbu, covering all available content types and how your progress is tracked.
- Navigating Content Sections: How units are organised and how to move between resources.
- Viewing PDFs: Opening and reading document-based resources.
- Watching Videos: Accessing and completing video content.
- SCORM Content: Working with interactive e-learning packages.
- Other Content Types: Podcasts, HTML Articles, and Canva resources.

Navigating Content Sections
Within each unit, learning resources and activities are organised into sections. Sections group related content together and help you follow a logical learning path. To navigate your unit:
- From your dashboard, click the class card for your course.
- Click on the unit you want to open.
- You will see a list of sections, each containing one or more content items.
- Click on a section to expand it and reveal its content.
- Click the View button next to any resource to open it.
Once inside a resource, you can navigate to the next or previous item in the unit using the on-screen navigation arrows or by returning to the unit overview.
Tip: You can expand and collapse individual sections to focus on the part of the unit you are currently working on. Your progress within each section is displayed alongside it.
Viewing PDFs
PDF resources include learner guides, handbooks, policy documents, and reference materials. To view a PDF:
- Locate the PDF resource in your unit section and click View.
- The PDF opens in the Nimbu viewer directly within the platform.
- Use the scroll bar or page navigation controls to move through the document.
- If you need a copy for offline reference, use the Download button where available.
Completing a PDF resource:
If your trainer has set the PDF as completion-required, a Complete button will appear once you have opened it. Click Complete & Continue to mark it as done and update your progress. This may also unlock the next item in your section if a prerequisite is in place.

Note: PDF and Article resources also support the Michi AI Assistant. Look for the Michi icon while viewing these resources, you can use it to summarise content, generate flashcards, or ask questions about the material. See the Michi Tutor Assistant article for more detail.
Watching Videos
Video resources include instructional content, demonstrations, lectures, and workplace procedure walkthroughs. To watch a video:
- Locate the video resource in your unit section and click View.
- The video player opens within the platform. Click the Play button to begin.
- Use the player controls to pause, rewind, adjust volume, or watch in full screen.
Completing a video resource:
If the video is set as completion-required, a Complete button will appear after you have opened the resource. Click Complete & Continue to mark the video as done.

SCORM Content
SCORM packages are interactive e-learning modules that may contain animations, branching scenarios, embedded quizzes, and self-paced activities. Unlike a static PDF or video, SCORM content is "smart", it tracks your interactions and progress automatically. To access SCORM content:
- Locate the SCORM resource in your unit section and click View.
- The SCORM module launches within the Nimbu platform.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to navigate through the module. Some SCORM packages have their own internal navigation (next/back buttons, menus, or progress bars).
- Complete all required interactions within the module as directed.
Completion tracking:
Most SCORM packages automatically report your completion back to Nimbu when you finish the module. Your status will update to Completed without you needing to click anything extra.
If the SCORM package does not support automatic completion, a manual Complete button may appear. Click it once you have finished working through the module.

Note: Your progress inside a SCORM module is saved automatically. If you exit partway through, you can return and pick up where you left off.
Other Content Types
Podcasts
Podcast resources are audio-based materials such as expert interviews, case study discussions, or industry insights. To listen to a podcast:
- Locate the podcast resource and click View.
- The audio player opens within the platform. Click Play to begin.
- Use the playback controls to pause, skip, or adjust volume.
If the podcast is set as completion-required, a Complete & Continue button will appear. Click it once you have finished listening.

HTML Articles
HTML Articles are web-based pages created by your RTO directly within Nimbu. They may include rich text, embedded images, links, and formatted instructions. To read an article:
- Locate the article resource and click View.
- The article opens in a full reading view within the platform.
- Scroll through the content to read it in full.
If the article is set as completion-required, a Complete & Continue button will appear. Click it when you have finished reading.

Note: Like PDFs, HTML Articles also support the Michi AI Assistant for content summarisation, flashcard generation, and guided study.
Canva
Canva resources are visual presentations, infographics, or designed materials embedded directly from Canva.
To view Canva content:
- Locate the Canva resource and click View.
- The Canva presentation or design loads within the platform.
- Use the on-screen controls to navigate through slides or zoom in on content.
If the resource is set as completion-required, a Complete button will appear. Click it once you have reviewed the content.

Prerequisite Content
Your RTO may configure certain resources so that they must be completed before the next item in a section becomes accessible. This is called a prerequisite, and it ensures you engage with foundational materials before moving forward.
How to Identify Locked Content
When a content item is locked due to a prerequisite:
- A lock icon appears on the left side of the content item in your unit view.
- Clicking the lock icon shows which item must be completed before this one unlocks.
- If you click View on a locked item, an information screen displays the content details but does not allow you to interact with or complete it.

How to Unlock Content
- Complete the prerequisite item listed against the locked content. This means either clicking Complete on a resource or successfully submitting an activity, depending on what is required.
- Once the prerequisite is satisfied, the locked item automatically becomes available, no refresh is needed.
- The lock icon disappears and the item status updates to Ready.
Entire sections can also be locked until preceding sections are completed. The same lock icon appears at the section level, and the same process applies, complete the required section to unlock access.
Note: If you believe a resource should be available but remains locked, check whether all prerequisite items above it in the same section have been fully completed, including clicking the Complete button where required.
Progress Tracking
Nimbu tracks your progress through learning resources automatically and displays your status at both the content item and section level.
Content Item Statuses
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Locked | This item is not yet accessible. A prerequisite must be completed first. |
| Ready | This item is available and ready for you to open. |
| In Progress | You have opened this item but have not yet marked it as complete. |
| Completed | You have finished this item. It counts toward your unit progress. |
What Counts as Completion
How a resource is marked as complete depends on its type and how your RTO has configured it:
- PDF, Video, Podcast, Canva, HTML Article : You must click the Complete button that appears when you open the resource.
- SCORM : Completion is reported automatically when you finish the module. A manual Complete button may appear if automatic reporting is not available.
- Optional resources : If a resource has not been set as completion-required, it will not show a Complete button and does not affect your unit progress, though you are still encouraged to review it.
Tip: Keep an eye on the progress indicators next to each section and content item. These give you a clear picture of how far through the unit you are and what still needs your attention before you can move on to assessments.
