Due Dates & Extensions
When your trainer activates an assessment or observation, they may set a due date - a deadline for when your work needs to be submitted. Due dates help keep your training on track and give you a clear timeframe to plan around. If you're running short on time or need an extension, your trainer can adjust the deadline for you individually.
This article explains what due dates mean, what happens if you miss one, and what to expect from reminders along the way.

This article explains how due dates work from a student perspective and what to do if you need more time.

Where Due Dates Come From
Not all activities have a due date - it depends on how your trainer or RTO has configured the task. A due date may be set in two ways:
- Your trainer sets it when activating the activity: Your trainer applies a deadline as part of releasing the activity to you. This is the most common scenario for trainer-led classes.

- The RTO has configured attempt-based due times: If your RTO uses assessment attempt limits, each attempt may come with a built-in due time. The first attempt's due time begins when the activity is opened or activated. Due times for any further attempts start as soon as you submit the previous one.

If no due date has been set, you can submit the activity at any time while it remains open.
Viewing Your Due Date
When a due date has been set for an activity, you can see it in several places:
- Unit view: A timer or due date indicator appears next to the activity in your unit list.
- Activity information pop-up: When you click on an activity before starting it, a pop-up displays the open time, due date, and any attempt information. This pop-up stays visible until you click Start Now.
- Inside the activity: Once you've started, a countdown timer is shown within the activity screen, indicating how much time you have remaining.

What Happens When a Due Date Is Reached
If you haven't submitted your work by the due date, Nimbu automatically submits it on your behalf. You will see a pop-up on screen letting you know that your time has ended and your work has been turned in. Here's what happens to your submitted work:
- For assessments: Any self-marking questions (Multiple Choice, True/False, Selection) that were left unanswered are automatically marked as Not Satisfactory (NS). Short answer and upload questions are sent to your trainer for manual marking regardless of completion.
- For observations: Your submission is sent to your trainer to review and mark.
Important: Auto-submission is not a penalty - it ensures your work is captured and sent for marking even if you run out of time. However, unanswered questions will be marked as Not Satisfactory, so try to submit before the deadline wherever possible.
If your work is auto-submitted and you feel you need another opportunity to complete it, speak to your trainer. They can review your submission and request a resubmission if appropriate.
Requesting an Extension
If you need more time to complete an activity, contact your trainer as early as possible. Trainers can extend the due date for you individually without affecting other students in the class.
There is no in-platform button to request an extension yourself - this is managed by your trainer on their end. Once your trainer updates the deadline, your countdown timer will automatically reflect the new due date.

Due Date Reminders
To help you stay on track, Nimbu automatically sends you a reminder 48 hours before an activity's due date. The reminder arrives by email and includes:
- The name of the activity
- The unit it belongs to
- The due date and time
- A direct link to open the activity
You don't need to do anything to receive these reminders - they are sent automatically. If your trainer extends your due date, a new reminder will be sent 48 hours before the updated deadline.
Tip: Reminders are a helpful nudge, but it's good practice to keep track of your own deadlines using the timers in your unit view rather than waiting for the reminder email.
