Taking a Quiz
Quizzes are self-paced knowledge checks built into your units to help you test your understanding, identify areas to revisit, and build confidence before formal assessments. Unlike assessed activities, quizzes are self-marking which you receive your score immediately after submitting, with no waiting for trainer review. This article explains how quizzes work and how to get the most out of them.
What's Covered in This Article
This article walks you through everything you need to know about completing a quiz in Nimbu, from how they work to reviewing your score and having another go.
- How Quizzes Work: The purpose of quizzes and how they differ from formal assessments.
- Answering Quiz Questions: How to respond to each question type.
- Viewing Your Score Immediately: What you see after submitting and what your result means.
- Retaking Quizzes: How to attempt a quiz again to improve your score.
How Quizzes Work
Quizzes are learning resources placed within your unit to reinforce knowledge and support your study. They are designed for self-assessment, which there is no trainer marking involved, and your quiz results do not directly contribute to your formal unit outcome in the same way that assessments and observations do.
Key things to know about quizzes:
- Quizzes are self-marking. All questions are automatically graded by the system as soon as you submit.
- You receive your score immediately after submission, without waiting for trainer review.
- Each quiz has a pass threshold - a minimum score percentage set by your RTO. For example, if the threshold is 90%, you need to answer at least 9 out of 10 questions correctly to pass.
- You can retake quizzes as many times as you need to.
Quizzes and Unit Progress
Some quizzes are set as completion-required by your RTO. If this applies, you must reach the pass threshold before the quiz is marked as completed, and any content or activities that depend on it will remain locked until you pass. A "Required" badge will appear on the quiz in your unit view to indicate this.
If a quiz does not have the "Required" badge, it is optional, you are encouraged to complete it for your own benefit, but it does not affect your progress through the unit.

Answering Quiz Questions
Quizzes use auto-marked question types only. All questions are graded by the system, so there is no short answer or file upload required. Here is how to respond to each type.
True/False
A statement that you must identify as either true or false.
- Read the statement carefully, then click True or False.
- You can change your selection before submitting.

Multiple Choice
A question with one correct answer selected from several options.
- Read the question and all options before selecting.
- Click the option you believe is correct. Your selection is highlighted.
- You can change your answer at any time before submitting.

Selection (Multiple Select)
A question where more than one answer may be correct and you must select all that apply.
- Tick every option you believe is correct.
- The question wording will indicate that multiple answers are expected.
Tip: Work through all questions before submitting. You can navigate back and forth between questions to review or change your answers.
Viewing Your Score Immediately
After you click Submit, the system marks your answers instantly and displays your results on screen. You will see:
- Your total score as a percentage (for example, 80%).
- Whether you have passed or not passed based on the quiz's pass threshold.
- Question-by-question feedback: showing which answers were correct, which were incorrect, and (where your RTO has configured it) an explanation of the correct answer.
This immediate feedback is one of the most useful aspects of quizzes - you can see exactly where your understanding is strong and which topics may need more attention before you move on to a formal assessment.
What the Results Mean
| Outcome | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Passed | Your score met or exceeded the pass threshold. If the quiz is completion-required, it is now marked as completed. |
| Not Passed | Your score did not reach the pass threshold. If the quiz is completion-required, it remains incomplete until you reach the threshold on a retry. |
Retaking Quizzes
You can retake a quiz as many times as you like. There are no attempt limits on quizzes.
To retake a quiz:
- After viewing your results, click the Retry or Retake Quiz button on the results screen.
- The quiz resets and you can work through all questions again.
- Submit when ready to receive a new score.

Each attempt is independent, your previous answers are not carried over. Use the feedback from your previous attempt to guide your focus on the areas you found most challenging.
Tip: If you did not pass on your first attempt, review the relevant section of your learning materials before retaking. The question-by-question feedback shows exactly which topics to revisit.
