RTO Settings
RTO Settings is where you define your organisation's identity and the default rules that govern how assessments, results, and legal agreements are managed across the platform. Configuring these settings ensures consistency across every course, class, and student record — from the number of assessment attempts allowed to how final unit results are accepted.
What's Covered in This Article
This article outlines the administrative controls available in RTO Settings.
- Organisation Information: Setting your official name and RTO number.
- Assessment Defaults: Managing attempt limits, activation defaults, and copy/paste behaviour.
- Pre-Training Defaults: Configuring default Pre-Training Review and Pre-Course Material settings.
- Student Result Management: Defining how final unit results are marked and accepted.
- Terms, Policies, and Student Agreement: Managing legal documentation and enforcing student agreement at registration.
Organisation Identity
Ensure your RTO's official credentials are set for use on certificates and reporting:
- RTO/Organisation Name: Enter your official legal name as it should appear across the platform.
- RTO Number (optional): Enter your registration number as provided by your regulatory body (e.g. ASQA).

Assessment Defaults
Define the default settings for every activity in your library:
- Attempts & Due Times: Configure the standard number of attempts a student receives for assessments with self-marking questions, and set the default timeframe allowed for each attempt. These defaults apply to all new assessments unless overridden at the individual assessment level.
- Trainer Activation Defaults: There are two independent toggles for controlling default activation behaviour — one for assessments and one for observations. Each can be set separately:
- Assessments: Toggle whether new assessments require trainer activation by default.
- Observations: Toggle whether new observations require trainer activation by default.
These defaults can still be overridden by Content Editors at the individual assessment or observation level.
- Copy/Paste Behaviour: Control how students interact with question text and answer fields during assessments. This setting uses a dropdown with four options:
- Always Allow: Students can freely copy question text and paste answers in all assessments.
- Never Allow: Copy and paste is disabled across all assessments platform-wide.
- Set per Assessment - Allow by Default: Copy/ paste is allowed by default but can be disabled on individual assessments by Content Editors.
- Set per Assessment - Disable by Default: Copy/ paste is disabled by default but can be enabled on individual assessments by Content Editors.

Pre-Training Defaults
RTO Settings includes default configuration for pre-training requirements that apply across new courses.
- Pre-Training Review: Set the default Pre-Training Review content to be applied to new courses.
- Pre-Course Material: Set the default Pre-Course Material content to be applied to new courses.
These defaults can be adjusted or disabled at the individual course level. See the Setting: Pre-Course Requirements article for more detail.
Student Result & Progress Settings
Final Unit Result Management
Define the workflow for finalising student outcomes at the unit level:
- Require Trainer to Set Final Result Manually: When enabled, trainers must manually review and confirm the final result for a unit before it is recorded. This ensures a human review step for all unit outcomes.
- Require Student to Accept Result: When enabled, students must actively acknowledge their final unit result once it has been set by the trainer. This adds a formal acceptance step to the completion workflow.
Terms, Policies, and Student Agreement
Editing Legal Documentation
Navigate to the Terms and Policies tab to manage your organisation's legal documentation:
- Terms & Conditions: Use the built-in editor to define your legal rights, pricing terms, and obligations for students.
- Privacy Policy: Outline how your organisation collects, stores, and manages student data in accordance with applicable standards.
Mandatory Agreement
You can require students to agree to your Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy as part of the online registration process. When enabled, students must tick the agreement checkbox during signup before they can access the platform.
The agreement is captured at the point of registration, not at first login. This applies to students registering via Online Registration.
