Creating a Class

While a Course serves as your master blueprint, a Class is the live instance where training actually takes place. Creating a class is the process of taking that static template and assigning it to a specific time, a specific trainer, and a specific group of students.

This step transforms your curriculum into a functional workspace where learners can engage with content, submit assessments, and receive feedback from their trainers.

What's Covered in This Article

This article provides a step-by-step walkthrough for launching a live training session from an existing course template.

Step 1: Initialise the Class

  1. Navigate to the Classes section in the left-hand navigation sidebar.
  2. Click the Add button in the top-right corner to open the Class Information editor.

Step 2: Configure General Information

Fill in the mandatory fields to define your delivery instance:

  • Class Name* (required): Enter a clear identifier for the group (e.g., Healthcare Service - Melbourne batch).
  • Date range* (required): Click the calendar icon to select the start and end dates for the training session.
  • Assign Trainer* (required): For trainer-led classes, select the qualified instructor from the dropdown list who will be responsible for activating content and marking submissions.
  • Course* (required): Select the master blueprint (Course) that this class will inherit its units and content from.
  • Internal Note (optional): Add any private context for other administrators that won't be visible to students.

Step 3: Manage Units and Enrolments

Click Save & Continue in the top-right corner. This creates the class container and takes you to the Class Management tab, where you handle units and student enrolments.

Adding Students

In the Class Management tab, click the dropdown arrow next to the Add Student button to choose your enrolment method:

  • Add Student: A list of existing students in the system will appear. Search by name or email to select and add them individually.

  • Import Student: For bulk enrolments, upload a CSV or Excel file containing student details. An example file is available for reference to ensure your data is formatted correctly.

Once added, each student will appear in the management table with their initial unit status (e.g. IA for Inactive; IP for In Progress)

Adding Units

If this specific class requires supplementary training beyond the inherited course units, click Add Unit to map additional Accredited, Non-Accredited, or Cluster units to this class instance only. These additions do not affect the parent course blueprint.

Step 4: Activate the Class

  • Once your configuration is complete and students are added, click the Activate button in the top-right corner.
  • A confirmation modal will appear asking whether you want to send invitation emails to enrolled students.
  • Click Yes to notify students that the class is live.
  • The class status in your registry will update to Active.
