Setting: Accredited vs Non-Accredited Courses

In Nimbu, the distinction between Accredited and Non-Accredited courses dictates the level of data detail required. Accredited courses are designed to meet the strict reporting requirements of the Australian VET sector, while Non-Accredited courses provide a flexible framework for internal professional development or informal training.

Properly configuring these settings ensures that your student records are accurate for both internal management and external regulatory audits.

What's Covered in This Article

This article explains the configuration requirements for each course type and how they affect data collection and reporting.

Accredited Courses

Accredited Courses: National Standardisation

Accredited courses are designed for formal qualifications that must meet the strict reporting requirements of the Australian VET sector. When creating an Accredited course, Nimbu enforces compliance by requiring fields that align with the National Training Register

  • National Code* (required): You must enter the official code assigned to the qualification or course (e.g., RII60520).
  • National Title* (required): You must enter the full, official name as it appears on the national register.

These fields are mandatory and become fixed once the course is published. Ensure they are accurate before publishing.

Internal Identifiers for Accredited Courses

Nimbu allows you to maintain national compliance while still using your organisation’s internal tracking systems. Even within an Accredited course, you can add an internal code or name alongside the mandatory National Code and Title, which is useful for aligning with your administration software or marketing materials without overwriting the required national identifiers.

Non-Accredited Courses

For training that does not lead to a nationally recognised qualification, the requirements are simplified. Non-Accredited courses are well suited to induction programs, soft-skills workshops, or short internal certifications.

  • Internal Code (required): An identifier that makes sense within your organisation's own naming conventions.
  • Internal Name (required): A descriptive title for the course used for internal administration.

There are no national register requirements for this course type, giving you full flexibility in how you label and manage the program.

AVETMISS Implications

The selection of the course type has a direct impact on your AVETMISS (Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard) exports:

  • Reporting Eligibility: Only Accredited Courses are typically flagged for formal AVETMISS reporting cycles.
  • Data Accuracy: By using the National Code and Title fields, Nimbu ensures that the data exported for government reporting matches the expected values for state and federal training authorities.
  • Validation: Non-Accredited courses are generally excluded from these formal reports, preventing "noise" in your compliance data and ensuring you only report what is necessary to the regulator.
