Setting: Accredited vs Non-Accredited Units
Compliance-Driven Configuration
In Nimbu, the distinction between Accredited and Non-Accredited units dictates the level of data detail required. Accredited units are designed to meet the strict reporting requirements of the Australian VET sector, while Non-Accredited units provide a flexible framework for internal professional development or informal training.
Properly configuring these settings ensures that your student records are accurate for both internal management and external regulatory audits.
What's Covered in This Article
This article explains the configuration requirements for each unit type and how they affect data collection and reporting.
Key configuration differences:
- Accredited Units: Built for formal Units of Competency and require verified national identifiers.
- Non-Accredited Units: Built for custom or internal training with flexible naming conventions.
- Internal Identifiers: Using your organisation's own codes alongside national standards.
- Reporting Logic: How unit type affects government reporting and compliance exports.
Accredited Units
Accredited units are designed for formal Units of Competency that must meet the strict reporting requirements of the Australian VET sector. When creating an Accredited unit, Nimbu enforces compliance by requiring fields that align with the National Training Register (TGA).
- National Code* (required): You must enter the official code assigned to the Unit of Competency (e.g., RIICWD507D).
- National Title* (required): You must enter the full, official name of the unit as it appears on the national register.
These fields are mandatory and become fixed once the unit is published. Ensure they are accurate before publishing.

Add Code Toggle: If your organisation also tracks units using internal identifiers, enable the Add Code toggle to reveal two additional fields:
- Code: Your organisation's internal code for this unit.
- Unit Title: An internal title that aligns with your administration system, separate from the National Title.
- Internal Note (optional) — A free-text field for administrative context. This is visible to internal staff only and is not displayed to students.
Non-Accredited Units
For training that does not lead to a nationally recognised qualification, the requirements are simplified. Non-Accredited units are well suited to induction programs, soft-skills workshops, or bridge courses that support your primary curriculum. These fields appear under the Internal Admin section of the Unit Settings:
- Code* (required): An identifier that makes sense within your organisation's own naming conventions.
- Unit Title*(required): You are only required to provide an internal identifier and title that makes sense for your organisation.
- Internal Note: A free-text field for administrative context visible only to internal staff, not to students.

There are no national register requirements for this unit type, giving you full flexibility in how you label and manage the content.
Internal Identifiers for Accredited Units
Nimbu allows you to maintain national compliance while still using your organisation’s internal tracking systems.
- The "Add Code" Toggle: Even within an Accredited unit, you can enable the Add Code toggle to enter an internal code or secondary name alongside the mandatory National Code. This keeps your internal administration software aligned without overwriting the required national identifiers.
- Internal Notes: Use the Internal Note field to provide trainers with administrative context. This information is not visible to students and is intended for internal reference only.

AVETMISS Implications
The selection of the unit type has a direct impact on your AVETMISS (Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard) exports:
- Reporting Eligibility: Only Accredited units are included in formal AVETMISS reporting cycles. Non-Accredited units are excluded, preventing unqualified data from entering your compliance reports.
- Data Accuracy: By using the National Code and Title fields, Nimbu ensures that exported data matches the values expected by state and federal training authorities.
- Validation: Accurate classification at the unit level is essential. Misclassified units can create discrepancies in government reporting that are difficult to correct after enrolments are underway.
